Curran, Stirs strike as Kohli gets reprieved

BIRMINGHAM: England's Sam Curran and Ben Stirs shared six wickets to leave India battling on the second day of the main Test at Edgbaston on Thursday.

At tea, India were 160 for six in answer to Britain's first innings 287, a shortage of 127 runs.

The 20-year-old Curran, in just his second Test, had eminent figures of four for 38 out of 10 overs.

Be that as it may, Britain could yet lament dropping India skipper and star batsman Virat Kohli on 21 and 51.

Come the interim, Kohli was 53 not out, with Ravichandran Ashwin unbeaten on six.

After India took the one wicket they expected to wrap up Britain's first innings, it appeared as though Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan had gotten through an intense spell against the new ball with a fifty organization for the principal wicket.

Be that as it may, having survived some testing conveyances from veteran pace twosome James Anderson and Stuart Expansive, they capitulated to Surrey left-arm swing bowler Curran.

Curran, on as first change, took three wickets for eight keeps running in eight balls to diminish India to 59 for three.

His wicket-taking burst started when Vijay was lbw on audit for 20 subsequent to missing an inswinger.

Two balls later Curran expelled K.L. Rahul for four by means of the batsman's monstrous level bat delay.

Left-hander Dhawan, blessed to see an edged drive off Curran fly past third slip Keaton Jennings, had no such fortunes when, on 26, he scratched an all around coordinated Curran outswinger to Dawid Malan at second slip.

India, 76 for three at lunch, lost their next two wickets on 100.

All-rounder Stirs appeared to astonish Ajinkya Rahane (15) with a strongly lifting conveyance that the batsman directed to Jennings, still at third slip.

Stirs at that point clean rocked the bowling alley wicket-guardian Dinesh Karthik for a duck as the batsman was beaten for both swing and pace.

India have for some time been condemned for their poor close getting however Britain's slip cordon isn't the most solid either and, with the voyagers still on 100, two possibilities went asking.

Kohli scratched Anderson just for Malan to drop a low catch at second slip.

That was the last conveyance of the over and the following ball saw all-rounder Hardik Pandya missed on nothing when Alastair Cook dropped a standard possibility at first slip off Feeds.

Yet, Curran came back to have Pandya lbw for 22 with an inswinging yorker.

Not long after subsequent to finishing a 100-ball fifty with his ninth four, Kohli was missed again by Malan, this time off Feeds.

Britain, who won the hurl, would have been disillusioned at being rejected for under 300 as they denoted their 1,000th Test with a very commonplace batting breakdown.

They had been all around set at 216 for three on Wednesday because of an organization of 104 between skipper Joe Root (80) and Yorkshire partner Jonny Bairstow (70).

Be that as it may, the come up short on Root by Kohli, who gave his Britain partner a brilliant send-off, started a droop that saw six wickets lost for only 67 runs.

Off-spinner Ashwin, belying his notoriety for being a poor entertainer outside the sub-landmass, took four for 62 of every 26 overs.
